What is Chaitra Navratri?
Most of the devotees believe that the Chaitra Navratri is Vasanta Navratri. Typically, it falls in the March month. This festival has to be marked as the first day of the Hindu calendar. Navratri defines nine nights.
In northern India, Chaitra Navratri 2025 will be celebrated with great effort and enthusiasm. This grand celebration lasts for nine days during the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra Masa, which occurs between March and April.
However, this festival is known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra. On the other hand, the Chaitra Navratri is fanatically celebrated in Northern and Western India. During the spring season, the ambiance is divine and fascinating. Hindu pilgrims pray and abide by all rituals of Maa Durga.
Difference between Chaitra and Sharad Navratri –
Seasonal difference: In the spring, Chaitra Navratri is observed. On the other hand, Sharad Navratri is organized in the autumn.
Regional variation: Chaitra Navratri is celebrated with various regional festivals, such as Ugadi, Navreh, Gudi Padwa, etc. Sharad Navratri is also associated with Durga Puja and Dandiya Raas.
End with celebration: Generally, the Chaitra Navratri celebration finishes with Ram Navami. In other words, Sharad Navratri’s grand celebration ends with Dussehra.
Where people are celebrated? – In general, Chaitra Navratri is mostly found in Western and Northern India. Even, Sharad Navratri is extensively observed in eastern India.
What to Do During Navratri –
Fasting: Fasting is one of the major rituals in Hindu scriptures. People can fast during Navratri. If devotees do not fast, they can consume vegetarian food.
Don’t consume non-vegetarian food:
However, some devotees believe that non-vegetarian food should not be taken during Navratri. A Hindu scripture shows a vegetarian diet based on the ahimsa concept.
Don’t Consume Alcohol and intoxicants:
Alcohol shouldn’t be consumed during Navratri. On the other hand, it changed mood and behavior. Even, Alcohol increases blood pressure level and it causes hear damage.
Daily Pujan of Goddess:
Nitya puja of Goddess is now becoming a direct connection between God and Goddess. Daily puja must be performed at the home temple.

- Generally, devotees ignite an earthen lamp filled with desi ghee.
- Burn camphor for fragrances.
- Praying particular mantras to nine form of Durga Maa.
- Place a pot at a certain area at home.
- Offering fresh flowers to Maa Durgas feet with dhoop, laal chunari and agarbati.
- Bhog can be prepared with desi ghee like Sabudana Khichdi or Kalakand.
